The Barisan Revolusi Nasional’s 4th demand for the recognition of the territorial ownership right of the Malayu Patani people was found to be most worthy of further discussions by the government’s panel tasked with finding a resolution to the southern unrest problem.
Army Commander-in-Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha has hardened his stance towards the five demands earlier made by the Barisan Revolusi Nasional separatist group as a pre-condition for further peace talks with the government.
"Nobody in this area would have wanted to hurt toh khru (Muslim religious teacher). I guarantee one million percent that somebody might have seen the perpetrators (who shot dead the toh khru) but none of them would dare to speak out,"
The government is likely to accept probably two of the five demands set by the Barisan Revolusi Nasional separatist group in order to save the peace talk process.
Altogether 23 people, including 11 members of the security force and 12 civilians were killed in 69 violent incidents occurred during the holy month of Ramadan in the deep South, according to the statistics complied by the National Police Office.
Until this moment, it remains unclear whether the Barisan Revolusi Nasional is still serious with carrying on with the peace process following widespread rumours about a split in the separatist group’s leadership.
Muslims in Pattani province have been celebrating the Eid-al-Fitr festival which marks the end of the Ramadan fasting month without their respectable and beloved imam, Yacob Raimanee, who was murdered by gunmen believed to be extremists on August 5.

In light of unabated violence despite the Ramadan ceasefire, quite a few people have started questioning whether the ceasefire agreement between the government and the Barisan Revolusi Nasional separatist group has already collapsed.
The holy month of Ramadan is not just a month for adult Muslims to fast from sunrise to sunset, it is also an appropriate time for their children to learn the practice of perseverance physically, verbally and spiritually at their tender ages to show their faith towards Allah.
