The government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has given a greenlight to the proposal of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to heal the wounds caused to people in the deep South from actions perpetrated by security forces.

The deputy national police chief, Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaew, is in favour of a super agency to deal more effectively with the unrest problem in the deep South.

After weeks of temporary respite from violence, people of the four southern border provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla were suddenly given a rough wakeup to reality when militants launched a string of coordinated gun, bomb and arson attacks on February 11-12 resulting to two deaths and, at least, two injured.

A special public prosecution office to handle security-related cases in the three southernmost provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat plus four districts of Songkhla has become operational as of October 1.
