The Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) southern separatist group has recently issued a statement declaring its distrust of the ongoing peace process between the government and the Mara Patani, an umbrella organization comprising six separatist groups, including a faction of the BRN called the BRN action group.

The inclusion of Songkhla’s Sadao district into the Ramadan ceasefire plan announced in Kuala Lumpur on July 12 by Malaysian facilitator of the peace talks, Mr Ahmad Zamzamin Hasim, has provoked widespread protests, including that of Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha.

The Barisan Revolusi Nasional separatist group has promised to cease its armed operations against government officials, members of the security forces and civilians and economic targets beginning next year if the government agrees to accept its five latest demands.

It now appears to be quite clear that the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) separatist group was not represented in the previous peace talks in Kuala Lumpur between the Thai government and separatist groups led by Hassan Taib which was brokered by Malaysia as the facilitator.
